LASTING PEACE NOT CHEAP: PM REMINDED SI

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare has strongly reminded the country that the price for establishing a lasting peace will not be cheap.

This, therefore, means Solomon Islands as a country must always prepare to make tough decisions on its ongoing peace – restoration process.

A government statement says Prime Minister Sogavare made the statement during the opening of a three-day workshop for Permanent Secretaries on the prioritising and sequencing of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Final Report Recommendations yesterday morning.

Mr Sogavare says his statement calls for political will on the part of the government as stipulated in Section 17 (2) of theTruth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Act 2008 and understanding on the part of everybody else, including development partners.

The Prime Minister says based on his bold stand, he is not hesitant to reveal that his Democratic Coalition for Change Government has the political will and leadership to ensuring that there are reparations, reconciliation and institutional reforms – closing the country’s past negative chapter and reintegrate into a new and better Solomon Islands.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together these heads of the administrative government to consider and strategise how to align the implementation of the five-volume document with their respective ministerial annual work programme.
