The Leadership Code Commission (LCC) has dropped the charge it executed against West Guadalcanal MP Moses Garu, because of unsubstantiated evidence.
The Commission’s Chair Solomon Kalu confirms they dropped the charge after the Commission met last week.
Mr. Kalu says the claim that honourable Garu facilitated the appointment of his own wife in December 2012 as the Constituency Development Officer for his constituency, was unsubstantiated.
He says the Public Service Commission appoints the Constituency Development Officers and the only role the MP played in this case, was to recommend his wife as an applicant.
“CDOs were appointed, in this case, Mr. Garu’s wife was appointed by the Public Service Commission so, in fact, she has applied for that post, which was advertised and that application was received by the Ministry of Rural Development. The MP’s involvement in his wife’s recruitment was that he made a recommendation, so a recommendation is not conclusive. It is a recommendation for the body that is responsible for making the decision to appoint his wife.”
The Commission under the leadership of the late Chair Francis Luza in April last year, formally charged Mr. Garu for official misconduct.
