Malaita Provincial Premier, Peter Chanel Ramohia has called on the parties involved in the incident at Suafa, North Malaita not to take the law into their own hands.
Mr. Ramohia made the call today after receiving information of alleged retaliation from families whose homes were torched to ashes last weekend.
Reports from Auki police confirms, a number of homes were burnt down as a result of the alleged incident.
Premier Ramohia called on the parties involved to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“On behalf of myself and the government and the Honourable provincial member for Ward Nine within which Suava is located Hon. Peter Maekiu, I as head of the government would like to call upon our people, chiefs and other community leaders in Adaua and other surrounding areas to respect the law and respect each other and not to take the law into their own hands.”
Meanwhile, the Premier also called on the national leaders of Malaita Province, the Police and community leaders to work together to address the situation at Suafa, North Malaita.
“I would also like to call on leaders, especially Malaita’s Parliamentarians, Provincial Members as well as Community leaders and the Police to work together to solve the problem at Suafa.”
SIBC News understands Police have been deployed to Suafa recently.
