The Malu’u clinic in North Malaita has re-opened for normal business after a half-day closure yesterday, which saw the clinic staff meet with police and chiefs after a harassment incident.
Malu’u clinic Manager Lawrence Irobaea says the clinic was closed yesterday after a man harassed the nurse on duty Sunday night.
According to Mr. Irobaea, the man who came with a patient, was allegedly angry because the clinic had run out of the patient’s medication and was told to return to it.
He says the incident has been reported to the Malu’u Police.
“We cannot do anything but to hand the case over to the police so that’s the only decision and services continue.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Irobaea warns Malu’u clinic is already short of human resources and such incidents do not help.
“This is because we are short of nurses and people from other places have to come to help us in this region, so we must discourage this kind of attitude to encourage new nurse postings as well as make them willing to come and work here.”
