Parliamentary Opposition Leader Jeremiah Manele has described as ‘shocking and disgraceful’ the lack of commitment by Government MPs in attending Parliament.
In a statement today, the Opposition Leader said it was inexcusable for Government MPs not to attend Parliament in to support of the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016 – 2035 Report.
This week Parliament was unable to continue with its business in the afternoon due to lack of quorum.
Mr Manele said the Government had an absolute majority of more than 35 MPs so achieving quorum should never be an issue.
He said two Ministers supposed to answer questions from the Opposition in Parliament yesterday were also absent.
They are Mines Minister, David Dei Pacha – who is still yet to respond to video footage showing him allegedly meeting in a carpark with a Chinese miner – and Health Minister Dr Tautai Kaitu’u who arrived late.
The Opposition Leader called on the Prime Minister to make sure that Government Ministers and backbenchers attend Parliament.
