MFAET announces return of five Solomon Islands students from Israel

Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, H.E Cornelius Walegerea with the five students after their arrival in Dubai this morning

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka is pleased to announce that the five Solomon Islands students studying in Israel are on their way home after conflict in the Middle East had delayed their return.

The students are scheduled to arrive in Honiara on Friday, 4th July 2025, following a multi-leg journey from Tel Aviv via Dubai, Brisbane, and Munda.

Travel restrictions in and out of Israel have recently eased allowing increased flights and passenger movements.

Minister Agovaka, expressed his gratitude to the relevant authorities in the State of Israel and to the Arava International Centre for Agriculture (AICAT) for their support and assistance to the Solomon Islands students throughout their stay and departure.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea, for staying in close contact with the students during the flight disruptions.

The students arrived in Dubai this morning, where they were welcomed by Ambassador Walegerea. 

He reported that the students were in high spirits and eager to reunite with their families and friends.

Throughout the crisis, the Solomon Islands Embassy in Abu Dhabi remained actively engaged, closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular communication with the students to ensure their wellbeing and safe return.
