About a million people will benefit from the European Union assistance in enhancing the productivity of Land and Labor through small-scale mechanisation for subsistence farmers in the Pacific.
Acting Head of the EU delegation in Solomon Islands Pavlos Evangelidis made this statement at the opening of a new Mechanisation Laboratory and workshop at the Taiwan Technical farm yesterday.
The EU-funded the new facility.
Mr. Evangelidis says the project which funded the facility, has the potential to benefit about one million households in Solomon Islands, including Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
He says that it delivers simple, tailored solutions to the communities. It is demand-driven, community-led, which is key for sustainability.
It will increase productivity and efficiency where technical resources are scarce and capacities are slim across all levels.
The acting EU Head says rural development and agriculture is one of EU’s current focal sectors for the current development cycle, its National Indicative Programme in the country.
