Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade attends 6th g7+ Ministerial Meeting in Timor-Leste

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka, attended the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the g7+ group of countries held in Dili, Timor-Leste, from 11th to 13th April 2025.

The meeting was co-hosted by the g7+ Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the g7+.

Key agenda items discussed included the endorsement of the g7+ Charter, which sets out the group’s goals and objectives, the adoption of the g7+ Peer Learning and Cooperation Framework—guided by the Fragile-to-Fragile (F2F) cooperation model—and the appointment of a new Chairperson of the group.

By consensus of the membership, Hon. Agovaka was appointed as the incoming Chair of the g7+, for a term spanning January 2026 to December 2028. During his tenure, he will be deputized by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Liberia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The g7+ is a coalition of 20 post-conflict and fragile states united by a shared vision to end conflict, promote peacebuilding, and eradicate poverty through innovative, context-specific, and nationally-led development strategies.

Solomon Islands acknowledges the valuable collaboration among g7+ member countries and the continued support provided through the g7+ Secretariat.

It regards the g7+ as a brotherhood rooted in shared values, solidarity, and mutual support—an alliance that empowers its members to bring value to one another and collectively amplify our aspirations for sustainable, homegrown peacebuilding and state-building.
