A five-member ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, John Maneniaru took a brief educational tour of the Forum Fisheries Agency headquarters in Honiara today.
The educational tour is to provide an overview of the regional organisation, which has been hosted by Solomon Islands for almost 40 years.
FFA highlights the total number of catches for different fish species and how much they are worth when sold in overseas markets.
Presenting the overview of FFA, Director General James Movick says FFA is already making progress by marking out the pathway it will take to ensure a Sustainable Pacific Fishery.
The FFA educational tour also includes a visit to the FFA’s Regional Fisheries Surveillance Centre.
Minister Maneniaru was joined by Foreign Affair Minister Milner Tozaka, Minister of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification David Dei Patcha, Designated Minister of Forests Bartholomew Parapolo and Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr. Tautai Angikimua.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Milner Tozaka said the visit is an eye opener for them.
He also recalled, when he was the Permanent Secretary for Police when he ordered the arrest of the American Purse Seine Jeannette Diana in June 1984.
He described the visit as very important as well as thanked his colleague Ministers who went on the brief tour of FFA.
