MINISTRY TO EDUCATE PUBLIC ON PARIS AGREEMENT 2015

“We need to inform the whole country about this agreement so we are going to look at holding a series of public awareness in the country. We hope that we will get some finance to do that so that people understand what are the country’s obligations under this agreement and how best all stakeholders and people, communities, business sector, the government will play their role. How each stakeholder will meet the national obligation, so we are going to do a public awareness so that people are made aware of the obligations and commitments under this agreement.”

Meanwhile, on accessing the ‘Green Climate Fund’ allocated for Climate Change mitigation and adaptation, Mr. Iroi says the government is in the process of formulating a Readiness Program.

“We’re already in the process of completing forms to be submitted to the Green Climate Fund Board for consideration so that we can access funds for our Readiness Program. Once that Readiness Program is in place and completed, then we can be able to apply for mitigation and adaptation projects to assist the country, so that’s the current situation, we are in the process of accessing funds to do our Readiness Program.”
