Monitoring Site Visit Conducted for Land Maritime Connectivity Project

A successful monitoring site visit was conducted last week (2nd & 4th April) at the current location of the Land Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP) to evaluate project progress and ensure environmental and social safeguards compliance is maintained as well as adherence to the established timeline.

This joint visit was attended by key representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development Safeguards/Central Project Implementation Unit (MID-CPIU), the Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC), and the contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The primary goal of this site visit was to oversee ongoing project activities, road rehabilitation of the Tandai Highway (White River to Town Ground roundabout) and Henderson to Mberande Bridge.

This collaborative activity provided an opportunity for the aforementioned teams to discuss project milestones, address any potential challenges, and reinforce the commitment to maintaining high standards during the construction phase.

Whilst on-site, the team observed firsthand the progress made and advancements achieved thus far.

This site monitoring is conducted on a weekly basis, also covering LMCP’s maritime subprojects: Honiara Port upgrade, Bellona, and Kira Kira Wharf.

Once the Tandai Highway section is completed with asphalt laying commencing soon, CCECC will move to Mendana Avenue (Heritage Park Hotel Roundabout to Solomon Ports intersection) and continue towards the Honiara City Council Roundabout.

The Henderson to Mberande (2-lane road) rehabilitation works are about to be completed, including the installation of road signs & markings.

The LMCP is funded collaboratively by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Solomon Islands Government.
