Solomon Islands needs more technical experts to review and monitor it’s Environment Acts to achieve sustainable development.
Senior Environment Officer Edward Danitofea says, it is important for the government to improve its capacity to fulfill it’s policies on sustainable development.
He adds, this is important as the country currently invests more on the mining industry.
Mr Danitofea adds, more experts and facilities are needed to implement programs and requirements needed under the Act to achieve sustainable development.
“The Act that deals with sustainable environment is the Environmental Act and that’s why for us to reach sustainable development, sustainable mining and such it needs experts and not experts alone but also facilities to make sure that we implement our work programme under the Act, and that’s the main reason why I have to chose to do a program that integrates these two things together.”
Mr Danitofea says more local technical experts will reduce costs to bring in oversea consultants.
