The Central Bank of Solomon Islands has launched the $40 note and new $2 coin today in Honiara.
This is part of the CBSI’s contribution to to mark the country’s 40th Independence Anniversary.
A total of 100,000 new forty dollar notes , and another 100,000 new two dollar coins have been produced, which will be distributed by commercial banks as of today.
The new forty dollar note was designed and printed by ‘De La Rue’ on a polymer substrate, while the new two dolar coins were produced by the ‘Royal Australian Mint’.
The new note is blue in color, it features the image of a man blowing a conch shell , and it also contains braille features that are compatible with blind people, while the only change to the new coin is the embedded Solomon Islands flag on one side of the coin.
CBSI Governor Denton Rarawa says the new banknotes shows a positive sign of a maturing Solomon Islands Economy.
“So 40 years on we are marking the anniversary of our independence, let us come together as one people and move this country forward,” he said.
” I believe this is the message that the architects of our new nation had in mind when they negotiated our Independence, so it is incumbent on us to uphold that vision.”
