The Central Bank of Solomon Islands will introduce a new five dollar note, part of its ongoing reforms on security and design specifications.
CBSI Governor Denton Rarawa had announced,the notes would be introduced in the first quarter of 2019, and will be made of polymer substrate, aimed at improving their durability.
The CBSI Governor said the bank intended to initiate the polymer substrates to all its legal tender notes.
“As we celebrate the journey of our nation, we will also celebrate the journey of our currency,” he said.
“There is a parallel between the journey of our nation and our currency, in fact development of nation our has implications on the notes we issue.”
Earlier this month the Central Bank launched the new $40 dollar note and new two dollar coin today in Honiara.
This is part of the it’s contribution to to mark the country’s 40th Independence Anniversary.
