The country’s new Chief Magistrate has taken his oath this afternoon.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Kouhota was sworn in by the Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer before members of the Judiciary.
Welcoming him to the Bench, Chief Justice Palmer says Magistrate Kouhota’s appointment is crucial and timely and will help the development and improvement of Magisterial services to the country.
Chief Justice Palmer says Mr Kouhota is not new to the Magistracy having served as a Principal Magistrate from 2001 to 2002 and as a senior Magistrate from 1990 to 2001.
He says it is only appropriate to welcome him back to the bench and he is grateful Mr Kouhota has not forgotten his “roots”.
But he says his return to the Magistracy will still require the same high level of demands, expectations and commitments, particularly as he is now installed in the most senior leadership and management position.
