NEW INSHORE FISHERIES ADVISOR ANNOUNCED

The New Zealand High Commission has announced its new Inshore Fisheries Advisor – he is Dr. Reuben Sulu.

A statement from the New Zealand High Commission via social media says Dr. Sulu was engaged under New Zealand’s Mekem Strong Solomon Islands Fisheries (MSSIF) Programme’.

MSSIF is a long-standing partnership between the New Zealand and Solomon Island Governments, which is assisting the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to sustainably develop and manage its fisheries resources.

Dr. Sulu comes with excellent qualifications – including a Masters in Marine Science -Aquaculture and a Doctor of Philosophy -Fisheries Management.

He has a wealth of relevant experience in community-based resource management in Melanesia and a measured and mature approach to achieving results in the in-shore coastal sector.

The statement says Dr. Sulu’s appointment is significant as he is the first Solomon Islander Technical Advisor to be contracted under the MSSIF programme.

It adds, Dr. Sulu’s appointment demonstrates both the capacity of Solomon personnel and commitment from both partners to sustainable development.
