The Government has not received any application for the Auditor General’s position.
The post was left vacant after former Auditor General Edward Ronia was sacked by the last government.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare told Parliament today no one applied for the post when it was advertised.
“No candidates have applied for the first round of advertisement so I think we’ll try a second time and if there’s any applying then we’ll consider. At this point in time we’re served by an Acting Auditor General and he’s doing a fine job Sir.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Sogavare says the Office of the Auditor General is doing a fine job under the Acting Auditor General Robert Cohen.
He also said the Government will consider seeking funding for the position if terms and conditions are not attractive.
“Maybe if the terms and conditions are not so attractive to people then maybe the point raised by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee may be considered especially looking at improving the terms or remunerations and get others to fund it Mr Chairman. That will be a long-term consideration.”
