The National Referral Hospital has again received another set of equipment, this time a hematology machine and a Biochemistry machine.
This was made possible through a proposal submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet which was approved around 2018.
Speaking at a commissioning event held for the new machines at NRH yesterday, Director of the Medical Laboratory, Alfred Dofai thanked the government for funding these vital machines.
“We are here to witness the commissioning of the biochemistry analyser, electrolite analyser and the hematology analyser, which cost the government almost two million dollars. For this I wish to commend the government for responding positively in approving funds for these equipment,” he said.
“I wish to highlight the seriousness of the down time the previous purchase has done to the lives of patients at NRH that I do not want to see in the future. Laboratory analysers are highly specialised equipment that only requires specialised companies to sell. Choosing unspecialised suppliers will only give us a situation as the one we have seen in 2017”.
Mr Dofai also thanked Roche Company from New Zealand for supplying the machines saying, they will last for more than ten years.
“From experience Roche products have lived for more than ten years before they are changed so I strongly believe that these will be the same for these machines. NRH has enjoyed Roche professional service for the last 30 years, therefore I would like to thank the Roche management for agreeing to sell these equipment to us,” he said.
“On the same token I will be pursuing a service maintenance contract for these machines and I look forward to a successful journey between us, a journey that will ensure the lives of our people”.
