The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) marked a historic milestone last night with the launch of the OFC Professional League at the region’s home of football, Eden Park, New Zealand.
In his official remarks, OFC President Lambert Maltock described the event as the first-ever professional men’s football league for the region since the establishment of the OFC on 15 November 1969.
“Now, 49 years on, the inaugural kick-off in 2026 will mark a perfect moment to celebrate the OFC Jubilee , the 50th Anniversary of our Confederation,” he said.
“For decades, our nations have shared a common dream to see Pacific football stand tall on the global stage, not only through passion, but through a sustainable, professional pathway that empowers our players, coaches, and clubs.”
Eight clubs have been confirmed to compete in the inaugural edition of the region’s top competition.
They are Auckland FC, Bula FC, Hekari FC, Solomon Kings FC, Southern Island United FC, South Melbourne FC, Tahiti FC, and Vanuatu United FC.
“The champion of this league will qualify for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and earn a place in the FIFA Club World Cup, giving our players the chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best,” Maltock added.
The league is scheduled to kick off in January 2026 at Eden Park, New Zealand.
Solomon Islands will be represented at the league by Solomon Kings FC.
