The Kongulai water source
Solomon Water has informed the public that due to high turbidity caused by current heavy rain at the sources, water supply from Kongulai and Kombito is closed until further notice.
Turbidity is a measurement of how cloudy the water is in surface water sources and can be caused by silt, mud, algae, or other particles in the water.
In a statement this morning, Solomon Water informed that the action to turn off supply is necessary to ensure unsafe water is not supplied for drink and use.
It says disinfection process cannot kill any bacteria when there is high turbidity which makes it unsafe and poses health risks to customers.
High turbidity in water will also clog pipes and customer’s facilities.
With the shutdown, water production systems at White River, Tasahe, Titinge, Skyline, West Kola Ridge, East Kola Ridge, Borderline, Kombito and Panatina will be affected with low water pressure until further notice.
It adds, all of West Honiara, Central Honiara, and East Honiara will be affected with low water pressure or no water at this time.
Meanwhile, Solomon Water assures that they are currently monitoring the source turbidity and will keep the public informed.
