OPPOSITION QUESTIONED GOV’T’s PEACE POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

The Parliamentary Opposition Group has questioned the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government on how it will implement its peace building policy under the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace.

A statement from the group said they understand that the policy on peace building is for the government to embark on post conflict rehabilitation programs through facilitation and developing of livelihood projects.

It said this was outlined under 4.2.5.4 of the DCC Government Strategy and Translation document.

The Opposition also urged the Prime Minister to thoroughly explain what strategies his government will take to properly facilitate the implementation of this vital program.

Meanwhile, the Opposition suggested the Prime Minister and his Government formulate a more holistic approach in implementing the peace building program.

It said a holistic approach would ensure that all those affected in one way or the other or involved in the crisis are given restitution opportunities and not only to a particular group like what has transpired with the $3 million payout.

The alternative government said the Prime Minister and his Government has taken a selective approach in trying to implement this important policy as seen in the recent payout to ex-combatants.

SIBC News understands, the Prime Minister has said he will not debate the payment issue any further.
