P.A.C COMMENCED MID-TERM HEARING INTO AUDIT REPORTS

The Public Accounts Committee has commenced its mid-term inquiry into audit reports tabled in Parliament from 1 – 5 July 2015.

The two reports were; the National Transport Fund; Transport Sector Development Project 2013 and the Office of the Auditor General Annual Report 2014, covering 2012 and 2013.

A statement from Parliament media said under the National Parliament Standing Orders 69 (1)(a)(c)(d) Ministries and entities that were discussed in the reports were invited to appear before the Committee to testify to the matters raised.

It said this process is part of Parliament’s oversight role in that to examine audit reports from the office of the Auditor General as well as other reports that were tabled in Parliament.

A total of 11 Ministries, State Owned Enterprises and public entities are to appear before the Committee, they are; the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Public Service.

Other ministries include the Ministry of Development Planning and Aid Coordination, Ministry of Provincial Government, Ministry of Home Affairs, Solomon Islands Ports Authority, Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau, Solomon Islands National University and the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.

The hearings will end tomorrow and the Committee will report to Parliament in its next sitting.
