Prime Minister Wale highlighted a key reform announced by the Minister of Finance and Treasury on 17 June.
And that is, he said the termination of all resource-sector tax exemption Memoranda of Understanding, alongside the restoration of the Revenue and Customs Exemption Committee as the sole lawful authority for granting exemptions.
“This decision restores integrity to our revenue system,” the Prime Minister said.
“It ensures that exemptions are no longer granted through discretionary arrangements but through a transparent and lawful process.”
Prime Minister Wale welcomed the Opposition Leader’s support for the reform.
He said such consensus reflects the importance of protecting national revenue.
“That decision is what fiscal honesty looks like in practice,” Prime Minister Wale said.
“It is the foundation on which this Government will rebuild the fiscal buffers our country needs.”
The Prime Minister emphasised that these measures mark a critical step towards strengthening public finances, restoring accountability and ensuring that government revenue is safeguarded for the benefit of all Solomon Islanders.
