Strong nations are not built by political leaders alone, but by the strength and integrity of their institutions.
Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale underscored this message during his recent Independence Address, highlighting the Public Service as one of the greatest strengths of the Solomon Islands.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the thousands of Solomon Islanders who serve the nation daily, often without recognition.
“Many do so without recognition. They prepare lessons for our children. They care for patients. They maintain roads. They administer justice. They protect our borders. They keep public records. They advise ministers. They deliver services to communities throughout our provinces,” he said.
“They are the quiet custodians of the State. To every public servant across our nation, I offer my sincere gratitude. Your work matters. Your integrity matters. Your professionalism matters.”
Prime Minister Wale emphasised that public confidence in Government is closely tied to the quality of service delivered by the Public Service.
“You are not simply employees of the Government. You are servants of the people. Never underestimate the dignity of that calling,” he said.
He added that in return, citizens rightfully expect excellence, integrity, efficiency, professionalism and respect.
“The Public Service exists to serve the public. Every unnecessary delay, every careless decision, and every misuse of public resources ultimately affects the lives of ordinary Solomon Islanders,” the Prime Minister stated.
“That is why my government remains committed to strengthening performance, accountability and implementation across the whole of Government.”
Prime Minister Wale concluded by reinforcing the importance of delivery and results.
“Policies must become programmes. Programmes must become results. Promises must become reality. Our people deserve nothing less.”
