Papua New Guinea has pledged 1-million kina, equivalent to around 3-million Solomon dollars, to assist on-going relief and reconstruction work in the country.
The PNG Government has also announced an initial donation of 2-hundred thousand dollars through her High Commission Office in Solomon Islands.
PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neil said the Government and people of Papua New Guinea stand united to support and assist Solomon Islands in the coming weeks.
The donation is for those affected by flash flooding, and is intended to provide relief, resettlement, infrastructure repair, and other efforts.
In Honiara, PNG High Commissioner to Solomon Islands Fred Yakasa told the NDMO “we hope our contribution can make some difference towards your efforts”.
Meanwhile, the NDMO applauded PNG’s decision to focus this donation on other areas in addition to immediate relief.
NDMO Permanent Secretary, Dr Melchior Mataki told the PNG High Commissioner rehabilitation and rebuilding is very important to Solomon Islands at this moment.
