Police say alcohol was involved in two deaths over the weekend on Honiara’s roads.
Director of Traffic, Inspector Brian Suri Malefo told SIBC one was a hit-and-run accident which claimed the life of a man in his 30s on Friday night.
“It occurred along the Kukum Highway, involving a white 15 seater van,” he said. “Its registration still unknown and this vehicle was travelling in the easterly direction.
“It was when the vehicle reached the opposite of Guzo point at Bahaii Center that it hit a pedestrian on the outer lane, leaving him lying on the ground. The pedestrian, believed to be in his 30s, died instantly.”
While the vehicle involved is still at large,
Mr Malefo said the other fatal crash occurred last night, resulting in one death and another person sustaining injuries.
“The incident was a single traffic fatality crash,” he said.
“The vehicle involved as a silver Toyota Sprinter with a short boot. That’s the single fatality crash which occurred along the Kukum Highway in front of the Perch School. The car jammed into the school’s perimeter fencing.”
Inspector Malefo said all accidents were alcohol-related.
