An alleged armed robbery at a logging camp in Shortland Islands, Western Province has sparked police investigations.
Police say the incident occurred last weekend when two 40 horse powered outboard motor boats carrying 10 people onboard arrived at Sanai logging camp and robbed the employees of Synergy Brisk Solomon Islands logging company.
It was understood the logging company was jointly operated with another company called Alu Development Company, involving in tree felling for export.
Reports said the men on board the two ray boats were allegedly armed with guns and were from neighboring Bougainville.
It is still unclear how many guns were used during the incident.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander for Western Province, Superintendent Cedar Nevol said the armed men fired three shots on arrival at the camp, causing fear and panic to the employees of the logging company.
PPC Nevol adds, a number of valuable properties including eight chainsaws, a 40 horsepower engine, a drum of fuel, a ray boat and goods in the company’s storage were allegedly stolen.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
