POLITICAL PARTIES CIVIC MANUAL TO SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE IN SOLOMON ISLANDS

 The Solomon Islands Political Parties Civic Manual, launched on 14 November 2025, is a practical tool for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and political parties to promote informed citizen participation, transparency and accountability in Solomon Islands.

The Manual was launched by the Political Parties Commission (PPC), through the Office of the Registrar of Political parties, following a two-day training for Civil Society Organisations in Choiseul and Isabel provinces. It will support democratic governance in Solomon Islands by building awareness about political parties and their polices, and how citizens can engage constructively to shape the nation’s future.

The development of the Manual was supported by Australia.

Victor Ngele, PPC Chair, stressed the importance of civic education, saying “Civic education is vital for strengthening democracy and ensuring citizens actively participate”.

He highlighted the manual’s role in informing communities about the roles and responsibilities of political parties, how party policies become law, the legal framework under the Political Parties Integrity Act, and strategies for inclusive engagement and cultural respect.

Australia continues to provide support towards strengthening democratic governance, transparency, and civic engagement in Solomon Islands through the Strengthening the Electoral Cycle in the Solomon Islands Project (SECSIP).

Australia’s Acting High Commissioner, Andrew Schloeffel, said “Australia and Solomon Islands both share a deep and enduring commitment to democracy. This manual will help ensure that citizens can actively engage in the political process and shape Solomon Islands’ law and policy.”
