The national government through the ministry of health and medical services held a ground breaking ceremony in Taro, Choiseul province yesterday to start working on the Taro Hospital Rehabilitation Project.
The SBD 22.6 million project, once completed, will provide the existing hospital with renovated wards, an extended operating theatre, a new administration block, and refurbished outpatient and clinical areas.
Premier for Choiseul province Harrison Pitakaka told SIBC News that the project gives hope to residents, who for 20 years have had limited access to adequate hospital facilities.
“As Premier, I would like to thank the National Government for the long-term care of the people of Choiseul Province.
“For the past 20 years, we have faced challenges in having a proper hospital facility for my people.
“It is fortunate that the current government, under the Government for National Unity and Transformation, through the Prime Minister’s Office and the social sector, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, is providing a facility that will improve health services for the people of Choiseul,” he said.
The Premier assured that the project should be completed before the next Choiseul Second Appointed Day.
The project was launched by the Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Hon. Rollen Seleso and the Premier Pitakaka during the Choiseul Province 35th Second Appointed Day celebration.
