Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele Holds Bilateral Meeting with French President His Excellency Emmanuel Macron

PM Manele meets with H.E Macron

NICE, France, Tuesday 10 June 2025 —  Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele held a fruitful bilateral meeting with the President of the French Republic, His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, on the margins of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, today.

The two leaders discussed a range of key issues of mutual interest, including the ratification of the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement, the impacts of climate change on Solomon Islands and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS), renewable energy, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), malaria, and national and regional security.

Prime Minister Manele expressed his appreciation to President Macron for hosting UNOC3, noting it as a strong demonstration of France’s leadership and commitment to ocean governance and global climate action.

“Our discussions today reaffirm the strong partnership between Solomon Islands and France. We are encouraged by France’s support for key national priorities, and we look forward to working closely together on initiatives that benefit our people and protect our shared ocean heritage,” Prime Minister Manele said.

On the issue of national security, President Macron offered technical support to the Solomon Islands Police Academy to help strengthen law enforcement capacity.

Prime Minister Manele used the opportunity to raise the proposal to establish a Heritage Museum at Lata in Temotu Province.

The museum would commemorate the cultural and historical ties between Solomon Islands and France, particularly the connection to the French explorer Jean-François de Lapérouse. President Macron welcomed the proposal and requested further details from the Solomon Islands Government.

The meeting reaffirmed the ongoing cooperation between Solomon Islands and the French Republic

President Macron is also in Nice, where he officially opened the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) earlier this week.
