Prime Minister Manele Welcomes Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See

Wednesday 6 August 2025, Honiara, Solomon Islands –  Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele this afternoon welcomed Archbishop Maurizio Bravi, Apostolic Nuncio to Solomon Islands, during a courtesy call at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Archbishop Bravi is in Honiara to present his Letters of Credence to the Governor General, Sir David Tiva Kapu, on behalf of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Head of State of the Holy See — the central governing authority of the worldwide Catholic Church and a sovereign entity under international law.

Prime Minister Manele congratulated Archbishop Bravi on his new appointment and assured him of the Solomon Islands Government’s full support for his mission.

“You are most welcome to visit Solomon Islands anytime,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the leadership of the Pope and the Catholic Church’s significant contributions to Solomon Islands, highlighting its role in education, health, and community development. He also expressed appreciation for the Church’s efforts in fostering peace, harmony, and personal dignity, which align closely with the government’s goals for a just and peaceful society.

Prime Minister Manele reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and partnership, noting that Solomon Islands will continue to work with like‑minded partners, including the Holy See and the United Nations, to promote peace and human dignity.

He also paid tribute to Archbishop Christopher Cardone for his 36 years of dedicated service in the country and welcomed Archbishop Bravi’s commitment to strengthening the 42‑year relationship between Solomon Islands and the Holy See.

Expressing confidence in Archbishop Bravi’s diplomatic experience and wisdom, Prime Minister Manele said he looked forward to the Nuncio serving as a strong bridge between Solomon Islands and the Holy See, further deepening their relations.

Archbishop Bravi thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and pledged to build on the strong foundations of the bilateral relationship.
