Prime Minister Manele welcomes the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Her Excellency Anne Grete Riise

Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP’s growing influence on the global and regional stage is reflected on the surge in courtesy visits received since assuming office as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.

This upward trend reflects the Prime Minister’s successful implementation of the country’s foreign policy, underscoring commitment to fostering positive relationships with all nations, irrespective of ideological or political differences. By embracing the “friends to all and enemy to none,” foreign policy, Solomon Islands under the leadership of Prime Minister Manele has positioned itself as a reliable partner in international affairs, enhancing its stature and reinforcing its role in promoting peace and cooperation in the Pacific and beyond.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP, warmly welcomes Her Excellency Anne Grete Riise, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Solomon Islands this afternoon.

Ambassador Riise is in the country to formally present her Letters of Credence to the Governor General of Solomon Islands, Sir David Tiva Kapu and meet Prime Minister Manele.

Prime Minister Manele extends sincere congratulations to Ambassador Riise on her new role and affirms his government’s commitment to enhancing collaboration during her tenure.

Solomon Islands and Norway established diplomatic relations in December 1980. Although bilateral engagements remain limited, both nations share common priorities, particularly in ocean governance, climate action, and sustainable development.

During the courtesy meeting, Prime Minister Manele and Ambassador Riise highlighted shared priorities and areas for potential collaboration, including:

  • Recognition of Norway’s global leadership in the High-Level Panel on Sustainable Ocean Economy and action against illegal fishing and plastic pollution.
  • Appreciation for Norway’s contributions to climate finance and support through international development institutions such as the UN, ADB, and World Bank.
  • Acknowledgement of the N-POC scholarship program, under which three Solomon Islanders have received academic opportunities.
  • Interest in pursuing hydrographic assistance to support maritime safety, navigation, and biodiversity protection.
  • Proposal for cooperation in maritime transport to improve connectivity between provinces and support commodity exports such as timber, copra, and cocoa.

The Government of Solomon Islands expresses its gratitude to Ambassador Riise for her commitment and engagement and assured her of the Government’s full support and cooperation throughout her tenure, expressed Prime Minister Manele.

Prime Minister Manele has received more than 10 courtesy visits from his regional counterparts, foreign government representatives, International and regional institutions in the month of April alone.
