Public servants who commute to work on public buses will be urging their union to request the government to provide them with transport.
Public servants who form part of long queues of commuters waiting for buses in Honiara every morning, say they are fed up with the poor bus services.
Public servants spoken to, say they will request the Solomon Islands Public Employees’ Union to ask the government to provide them with transport.
They say the poor bus services cause their late arrival at work, adding no doubt there is productivity loss too, involved.
Some public servant bus commuters say if State-Owned Enterprises and private companies provide transport to their workers, they cannot see why the government cannot also provide them with transport.
Others say because bus drivers and their conductors are not interested in providing good services, the government should provide transport for all members of state unions who form the majority of bus commuters on a daily basis.
They believe such action could voluntary force bus service providers out of business.
Other disappointed bus commuters say the Ministry of Commerce and Industries should withdraw the permission to allow mini buses to operate in Honiara and allow only big buses.
