PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION PRESENTS ITS FINDINGS

The Public Service Commission has presented its findings on the performance of government Permanent Secretaries and their ministries.

The Commission began workshops with Permanent Secretaries after Cabinet approved it in 2012, which led to a Performance Agreement that was signed between the Commission and Permanent Secretaries last year.

Chair of the Public Service Commission Eliam Tangirongo says, the Performance Agreement helps to address problems the Permanent Secretaries and their ministries face in the workplace.

“So this Performance Agreement helps Permanent Secretaries, Ministries and the Commission to look at what are the difficulties faced, what are some of the problems, because ultimately when we talk about ministry we are talking about services to the people of Solomon Islands. The public has complained, saying the Public Service is corrupt, the public servants absent from work and are always late to work, they never pick up phone calls. Ultimately those are the things that we want to find out why are they happening, why the Solomon Islands public are complaining about government services.”

The Public Service Commission Chair also said service delivery to people will be improved when Permanent Secretaries’ performances are improved.

The Public Service Commission presented the findings on Monday this week.
