Police at Taro in Choiseul Province have arrested a 19-year-old male for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl at Taro Station last week.
Provincial Police Commander Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria said the alleged rape incident occurred between 3 to 4pm on October 10 in Taro Township.
PPC Eria said the suspect is currently remanded at the Gizo Correctional Services awaiting his appearance before the Gizo Magistrates Court on October 26.
Superintendent Eria said although the remand application was granted, his officers are continuing with the investigation.
He said it is a sad incident to occur in their community and called on youth, community and women leaders, chiefs and church elders to work together to discourage these attitude in the communities.
He warns police will not tolerate such behavior and attitude in the communities but will prosecute those involved.
