Member of Parliament for Central Guadalcanal Peter Shanel said the Road Transport Board has failed to regulate the Road Transport Act 2009.
Mr Shanel made the statement during the debate on the Honiara Short Bus Route motion, which was passed last Thursday.
He said the Road Transport Board has failed to implement their decision on transport services in Honiara.
Mr Shanel said there should be a body which makes decisions and the Board are to implement and enforce these decisions as stated in the report.
“When the Road Transport Board makes a decision their problem is to implement that decision Sir. They make their own decision and they also empower themself to implement and enforce that decision, which is ineffective. So as highlighted by the report we need to make a body that makes the decision and the Road and Transport Board implement that decision. In that way it will probably work.”
The Central Guadalcanal MP adds, Honiara City Council should be empowered in decision making to regulate transport matters and services in the City.
