The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has appealed to Gold Ridge communities to stay away from the Gold Ridge Mine premises.
Unconfirmed reports say landowners angry over non-payment of royalties are looting the Gold Ridge premises after the miner, St Barbara, closed its operations at the mine.
In a press statement today, the Police says the communities need to stay away from the mining sites and offices to allow officers to carry out its duty.
The Police also says there are hazardous chemicals and dangerous materials poses greater risks to anyone accessing the mining premises.
Police are also asking locals within the mining and surrounding areas at Gold Ridge site to assist them and to allow stakeholders settle the current issues.
Meanwhile, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force says it will continue to be visible and monitor the situation on the ground.
