The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) has agreed to train Technical Community Helpers of the Government’s Rural Development Program (RDP).
The agreement follows a contract signed by SINU Vice Chancellor Dr. Glynn Galo and the Permanent Secretary for Development Planning and Aid Coordination, Shadrach Fanega last Friday.
The contract means SINU will offer a 16-week course during the University’s holiday break for RDP’s technical community helpers.
The course will cover basic mathematics, project management, basic engineering and electronics, basic plumbing and construction, environmental management and disaster preparedness.
Speaking at the signing, Permanent Secretary for Planning and Aid Coordination, Shadrach Fanega said the course would provide important skills needed to help communities carry out their RDP project.
Technical community helpers will work with RDP community helpers to assist communities to implement the projects they have selected.
The Rural Development Program is into its second phase which has been expanded to cover all rural wards in the country.
