SEZ Capacity Building Seminar for Solomon Islands Opens in Haikou

Haikou, Hainan Province, China – Officials and technical staff from the Solomon Islands have gathered in Haikou for a three-week seminar on building capacity for sustainable special economic zones, running from 13 May to 2 June.

The seminar is hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce.

Twenty-four participants from the Solomon Islands are attending, including Mr. Riley Henao Mesepitu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration

As part of the program, participants are conducting field visits to sites across Hainan, including the Wenchang Aerospace City State-owned Trading Company, Chunguang Food, Sanya Central Business District, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Nanqiang Village, and Haikou Jiangdong New Area.

They will also travel to Shenzhen’s High-tech Park and to private enterprises for exchange and study.

Through these field visits and discussions, the seminar aims to share China’s experience in industrial park planning and development, strengthen Solomon Islands’ capacity to plan and manage special economic zones, and promote deeper bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
