The Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Hon. Winston Peters and his delegation has arrived in the country following the departure of Australia’s Prime Minister, Hon. Scott Morrison last yesterday.
Welcoming Hon. Peters on his arrival was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Jeremiah Manele.
Hon. Manele briefed Hon. Peters about ongoing developments in the country’s aviation sector, to which New Zealand has immensely contributed its financial resources.
“Together with the support from the government of New Zealand, we were able to progress and complete work of the Munda international Airport,” he said.
“These Airport facilities were opened months ago, and our national flag carrier, Solomon Airlines has been making direct flights from Brisbane.”
In his response, Hon. Peters said he is leading the biggest delegation to Solomon Islands saying, this indicated the close relationship that New Zealand and Solomon Islands continue to enjoy.
” Solomon Islands has a special place in New Zealand’s heart going back to our missionary led connections, Some of us keep the faith still, some don’t , and later to our enduring commitments to inclusive development and stability in this country,” he said.
“Solomons is our largest bilateral development program and we work in partnership with the government of this country for the benefit of it’s people.”
