Solomon Islands is one of the largest Melanesian countries needing greater participation in higher education that is known internationally.
Professor Richard Coll made the statement during the University of the South Pacific (USP) Solomon Islands Campus radio talkback show on the National Broadcaster today.
Professor Coll says high in population and growth rate, Solomon Islands needs high tertiary education.
He adds Solomon Islands has a very low percentage of higher education.
“And in particular it needs higher participation and higher education as known internationally that high levels of education particularly tertiary education which often increase growth and sustainable development, and the Solomons has a very low percentage of population, about 4 to 5 percent of the population has actually involved in higher education, which by international standards is quite low.”
The show today aims to provide an opportunity for the public to share their views on the academic plan for the fourth USP campus in the country.
