SIBC to host regional radio conference

The Solomon Islands National Broadcasting corporation will be hosting the Pacific Media Partnership Conference starting from tomorrow in Honiara.

The 3 day conference will be held at the Kitano Mendana Hotel, with Attendees including public and private broadcasters, telecommunications companies, representatives of electronic manufacturers, broadcasting and engineering consultants and government officials.

This is part of the of the annual Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union  (ABU) meeting in the Pacific region specifically for Island members of ABU but members from Asian countries can also attend.

Several Pacific countries will be represented including PNG, Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Federated States of Micronesia and Nauru as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Former SIBC advisor/trainer in the 1980s Dr. Martin Hadlow will be a key speaker and Francis Herman who Managed PACMAS will also be involved.

The ABU, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014, has more than 255 member broadcasters large and small spread across the region’s 63 countries, from Turkey in the west to Samoa in the east, and from Russia in the north to New Zealand in the south.

Established in 1964 as a non-profit, non-government, professional association to assist the development of broadcasting in the region, the ABU promotes the collective interests of television and radio broadcasters and encourages regional and international co-operation between broadcasters.
