SICCI expressed concerns and impacts caused by traffic congestion to business houses and appreciation for the efforts being made and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in solving the challenge.
According to updates shared during the meeting, the road construction stretching from the Heritage Park Roundabout to St.John School/Outback is on track for completion by August.
This timeline aims to ensure the infrastructure is ready ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in September.
In addition, full completion of the broader road development project on Honiara’s western end is expected by the end of 2025.
The RSIPF acknowledged the growing issue of traffic congestion in the capital and assured SICCI and the public that police officers will be deployed to manage traffic, particularly during peak hours, to minimize disruption.
SICCI praised the ongoing partnership and emphasized the value of timely information-sharing between all involved parties to help businesses and commuters plan accordingly.
“The Chamber is pleased to see close collaboration between the CCECC, MID, RSIPF, and SICCI. Effective communication and coordination will be key in addressing traffic issues and ensuring that development progresses smoothly,” SICCI said in a statement.
The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to supporting infrastructure improvements, which are seen as vital for economic growth and improving daily life for Honiara residents.
