SIMA accept government’s explanation on Dr. Posala’s termination

The round table dialogue comprised of senior officials from the National Referral Hospital and SIMA, Ministry of Public service, Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and the Attorney General.

SIMA recommended alternatives to engage Dr.Posala’s services in support of emergency response measures currently being implemented.

In a personal statement Dr.Posala acknowledged and accepted his termination. He further called on his professional colleagues and the public to collarborate in confronting and combating COVID-19, as the most important priority for the country at this point in time.

He also confirmed his commitment to assist wherever his services might be needed in the fight against this global pandemic.

The joint statement said, emphasis was also made and acknowledged by all sides that such an incident could have been avoided, especially when the country is preparing to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government acknowledged the professionalism, humility and leadership demonstrated by Dr Claude Posala to acknowledge and accept his termination.

The government assured SIMA and the Ministry of Health that it is committed to continue working together with them to foster greater communication in combating COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint staement also agreed, the government will compile some basic guidelines on social media platforms used by public officers, noting that rules already existed  in the  Public Service Regulations and the Penal Code provides the basis for such guidelines.

Medical Officers under the Emergency Powers are authorising officers, therefore, any important frustrations should be raised through appropriate government channels.

The joint statement said, “The combined objectives are; to prevent any entry of COVID-19 through our borders and, to ensure we contain it”.

The government calls on the general public to support a united efforts in protecting Solomon Islands from the COVID-19 pandemic.
