The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services (SIMS) has advised people to take precautionary measures as the country heads into the wet season.
Director of Meteorology, David Hiriasia told SIBC’s “Distaem Nao” program, the country’s cyclone season is from November to April.
He says heavy rains is be expected from February to March because this is the peak of the wet season.
“In the cyclone season we have the month of February and March in which we refer to as the peak of the wet season so we usually have the highest rainfall and from experience, February and March are the two months that we usually have flooding in and around the country so most flooding can occur during these times and so bad weather is something that’s basically expected then.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Hiriasia says people should listen to the warning and weather forecasts issued by the Meteorological Services.
“The important thing is for people to listen to the warnings, not only the warnings, but the forecasts which are also important because as I’ve said we will expect bad weather for this weekend as well as next week so it’s important that people take note of the advice and warnings issued out by the Met Service and other organizations.”
