The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) has as of last night issued a strong wind advice to the travelling public.
The Met Service reports, a general easterly trade wind currently persists over the country.
Director of the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service Mr. David Hiriasia confirms a trough lies just northeast of Solomon Islands whilst a general easterly trade wind flow persists over our Islands.
Mr. Hiriasia adds moderate to strong winds are expected to continue in the next few days.
“The situation now is that an active trough is currently lying over Solomon Islands, extending down to the region and continues to influence the unstable weather. We expect winds to continue throughout the week and the rain should probably ease down by tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, the Met Director warns the public to take precautionary measures especially at this time of bad weather.
“So it’s very important that mariners more especially those travelling on outboard motor canoes between islands must take note and aware that winds are quite strong at the moment and our colleagues at the Marine division are also informing ship owners.”
