Six Solomon Islands women and girls have won the 2015 Westpac Women’s Education Grants, a program that gives women and girls a helping hand to further their education.
The grant delivers financial assistance to primary school, high school or secondary college girls and women studying at a tertiary institution, or women currently working who wish to return to study.
Chelsea Kei of Coronation School and Deslie Legahile of Mbokonavera School won the Primary School Category Grant Awards of $1,000.
In the Secondary School category, Stephany Veronica of Coronation School and Lucy Keniore of St Nicholas College each won a grant of $3,850.00.
In the tertiary category, Damaris Manea of the Solomon Islands National University and Jenelle Raddie, a teacher, won a grant of $6,500.00 each.
A statement from Westpac Solomon Islands says over 60 applications from as far as Temotu Province, and Munda in the Western Province were received this year.
Judges awarded the grants based on responses to the question: “What are the three things our country needs to do in order to Make it Happen for women?”
