Solomon Islands and UN signed Country Implementation Plan in Qatar

Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Trevor Manemahaga, and United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dirk Wagener, signed the SI-UN Country Implementation Plan

Minister for the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC), Hon. Trevor Manemahaga, and the United Nations’ Resident Coordinator (UNRC), Mr. Dirk Wagener, signed the SI-UN Country Implementation Plan (CIP 2025-2027) at the margins of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, on 4th November 2025.

This CIP is an ambitious, comprehensive and inclusive document that outlines how the UN agencies in partnership with Solomon Islands Government and development partners will address pressing challenges including climate vulnerability, economic diversification, gender equality and social inclusion, health and governance.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Menamahaga noted the CIP 2025 -2027 comes at a critical time.

“As we prepare to transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, our planning and coordination mechanisms must remain robust, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our communities.

The SIG-UN partnership is central to this effort and today’s signing is a testament to our shared commitment to transparency, inclusive accountability and results-driven development,” Minister Menamahaga said.

He reiterated the importance of ongoing partnership with UN agencies especially in areas of inclusive economic growth, climate resilience and infrastructure.

The 62-page document outlined the shared dedication of the Solomon Islands Government and the UN to implement the Country Implementation Plan 2025-2027 which is aligned with the Solomon Islands’ National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016-2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It also highlights the “Leaving No One Behind” principle aimed at addressing inequalities and ensuring that marginalized groups, particularly women and youth, are included in the proposed CIP development initiatives.

 Minister Manemahaga and five other government officials are representing Solomon Islands at the 2nd World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, from 4-6 November 2025.
