Solomon Islands establishes diplomatic relations with Republic of Armenia

Solomon Islands and the Republic of Armenia officially established diplomatic relations on Wednesday, 14th of May 2025 during a signing ceremony held in New York.

The Agreement was signed by Her Excellency (H.E) Mrs. Jane Waetara, Permanent Representative of Solomon Islands to the United Nations, and His Excellency Mr. Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations.

This milestone reflects the shared values of both nations as small states, and their mutual commitment to peace and stability, environmental stewardship, and the promotion of friendship, respect, and international cooperation.

Both countries are members of the Forum of Small States (FOSS), a cross-regional grouping within the United Nations that brings together small island and landlocked states with common global interests and challenges.

H.E. Mrs. Waetara expressed deep appreciation to the Government and people of the Republic of Armenia, noting that the establishment of diplomatic ties will bring substantial benefits, creating pathways for meaningful collaboration, knowledge exchange, and cooperation on critical global issues.

 In response, H.E. Mr. Hovhannisyan thanked the Government of Solomon Islands for this historic initiative and extended an invitation on behalf of the Armenian Government for Solomon Islands to participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), scheduled to be held in Armenia in 2026.

With this agreement, Solomon Islands has now established diplomatic relations with 135 member states of the United Nations.
