Solomon Islands maintains its plea on global mitigation ambition.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology Dr. Melchior Mataki, leader of the Solomon Islands delegation to the UN Climate Convention in Lima, Peru made the statement.
Only 21 parties out of 123 parties including Solomon Islands have ratified the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol.
This means to pass and enforce the commitment, 123 Parties to the Kyoto Protocol will need to submit their instruments of acceptance.
Dr Mataki says while parties involved must deliver a draft text of the 2015 Agreement in Lima, Solomon Islands can only sign onto an Agreement that guarantees our survival as Solomon Islands always refuses to fail its people and future.
He adds it is worrying to see the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol has yet to come into force as parties involved, especially industrialized nations are yet to listen to the plea of the small island developing states.
